What makes the MacBook one of the best laptops for students? | 2024

One item you will require if you are a student at a university or intend to attend one soon is a reliable laptop. It should be easy to carry, not get discharged after every lecture, and should have good performance overall.

I used to think Apple products were just overpriced and not worth it. But that was before I used my Macbook Pro M1. In this article, I will show how Apple’s Macbook can be one of the best decisions you could make if you are planning on buying a laptop.

Battery life

One of the most important things for us as students is that our laptops have a decent battery life. Having to reconnect your laptop after a one to two hour lecture is annoying because it drains so quickly. Due to their laptop’s short battery life—roughly two hours—some of my friends are forced to do this. And the majority of Windows laptops are like this.

With the MacBook Air M1/M2/M3, Apple promises a battery life of about 18 hours, while the MacBook Pro is supposed to last 20–22 hours. After more than a year of use, I can confirm that the battery life of my Macbook Pro (M1) is indeed as good as stated. Even if I forget to charge my laptop a day in advance, I won’t have to worry about my battery dying. I haven’t experienced it in more than a year.

Performance

Of course, if the laptop performs not well, battery life means absolutely nothing. However, with the Macbooks, that isn’t the case.

The most recent M series processor, the M3 (low end), has in total eight CPU cores—four performance cores and four efficiency cores, giving the Macbook a ton of power. If you would like a comparison with an Intel processor: the base model of the M3 processor is better than the Intel Core i7 processor. You can compare different processors here

And If you are looking for more power you can always buy a Macbook with higher-end processors like M3 pro or M3 max. But if you are a student like me, you will never use that much power. Purchasing Macbooks from the M2(256 GB / 512 GB) or even M1(256 GB / 512 GB) series should therefore be sufficient for you and cost-effective as well. A comparison of the three chips is shown here.

The 10-core GPU in the M3 also offers different features like hardware-accelerated mesh shading, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and dynamic caching. For the base model of the Macbook Air with an M3 chip, 8 GB of RAM, or Unified Memory is provided.

Regarding storage, the minimum is 256 GB, but you can upgrade to more space—of course—for a higher price. Because SSDs cannot be upgraded in a Macbook after purchase and because these powerful machines will be with you for a long time, I would advise you to go with 512 GB of storage.

Build Quality

These machines are insanely well-built. Apple performs a pretty fantastic job with the Macbook Pro’s body when compared to other laptops in the same price range. It simply has a sturdy, substantial feel. There isn’t a Windows laptop that I have seen that is as well-built as a MacBook. It’s that excellent.

Value for money

I wasn’t sure if I should spend this much money on a laptop before I bought the Macbook for myself. However, I discovered that Apple has reasonably priced the Macbook after comparing the same specs on Windows laptops. The cost of Windows laptops was higher.

Durability

If you purchased a Macbook within the last year or two, it will most likely still be in excellent shape in five to six years. It might be viewed as an investment with a long term. I have been using my MacBook for a year, and the battery is still 100% healthy. It still has that brand-new feeling.

Others

Display

With a brightness of 500 nits and compatibility with 1 billion colours, the 13-inch Liquid Retina display is an appealing feature of the smallest MacBook. Therefore, you won’t be let down if you wish to watch a movie with your buddies.

Speakers

The four speakers of the Macbooks’ sound system are made up of two woofers for low-frequency sounds and two tweeters for high-frequency sounds. A captivating auditory experience awaits you. The Macbook’s speakers give off the impression that sound is coming from all directions. It has a magical feeling to it.

Light-weight

A lightweight laptop is usually a smart idea if you plan to carry it around regularly. The 13″ MacBook Air and Pro are the greatest options for portability. With a weight of only about 1.3 kg, they are incredibly light in comparison to other Windows laptops.

Trackpad

With a big trackpad and multiple gestures, the Trackpad in Macbook makes your work more efficient.

Apple Ecosystem

Although I didn’t purchase the Macbook for the Apple Ecosystem, it’s still a useful addition if you own other Apple products. For example, It is possible to copy and paste text from one device to another. Every device will be in sync with all of your files and images. You can even do video conferences on your Mac computer using the iPhone’s camera.

Conclusion

Apple has packed high-quality stuff into this laptop. Macbooks seem to have been made with love. From the aesthetics to the performance, Apple has not left any stone unturned. The Macbook offers everything, including the finest laptop speaker I’ve ever heard, an incredible display, long battery life, and strong performance. In addition to all of this, a Macbook costs less than any other Windows laptop with equivalent specifications.
